For work and
study, a Turntable Desk is ideal for those who are confined to a wheelchair.
These desks are designed to increase the reaching ability of the user
by means of rotating
surfaces.
Extensions For
Independence has made available several models of these Turntable Desks
which can be adjusted in height and configuration to suit individual needs.
An old picture (1978) of a desk that is still functional today,
by just replacing the typewriter, and the telephone, with their
modern counterparts.
TWIN-TURNTABLE DESK

This Executive Twin-Turntable
Desk (EI-2377) is loaded with two Extension Tables (EI-2404 on the left
and EI-2400 on the right), a 2nd-Level Extension Table (EI-2410) on top
of EI-2400, and our Carrousel Book Holder over the left-side turntable.

This Executive-size Desk is designed for persons
who handle large volumes of work. It has two large revolving surfaces
which can be easily rotated by hand, mouthstick, or by motor (optional).
On one of the rotating surfaces one may have reference material,
such as catalogues and filing trays (and up to 5 reference books,
if you also order a Carousel Book Holder). On the other rotating surface,
one can have a computer, a scanner, etc. With this arrangement
one can easily read from reference materials without interrupting
one's access to the computer or to the scanner.

Equipment, such as printers, telephone devices,
etc., can be placed on optional EXTENSION TABLES designed for these desks.
Two EXTENSION TABLES make the desk in a super-functional "U" shape.
Notice that the Extension Tables on the Executive Twin-Turntable Desk
of the right slant outwards. This is optionally done with our Universal
Straight-Diagonal Extension Tables.

One of the most impressive features of our desks
is that only four slender
but sturdy legs can hold it. This applies regardless of the
desk's configuration after putting together the modules wanted,
such as Extension Tables to make it "L"-shaped or "U"-shaped.
Notice that the legs are placed at the corners of the periphery
of the chosen configuration. In this way, wheelchair users
can swing around and shift positions with minimum obstruction.

Single-Turntable Desk
(EI-2374)
The turntable in this design is 42" in diameter, the largest on all
our desks. A smaller turntable is possible, but then the advantage in
the design is reduced.

The Book Holder Carousel(EI-2472)
is optional and available for all our turntable desk models or Lay-On
Rotating Surfaces. It stands at a selected height (0-18 inches)
above its "host" turntable and turns independently from it.

| CONSTRUCTION: Our Turntable Desks are made to last a life-time
with no maintenance under normal working conditions. They are built of
steel tubular frame and have detachable legs. The revolving surfaces are
supported by a precision balanced system of ball bearings. A central hole
- 3.25 in. Diam. - on each turntable is designed for cords from computer
and other electrical or electronic equipment to run through. The top is
finished in wooodgrain Formica (Standard) and the frame is electro-coated
in black and gray. Both design and construction meets or exceeds all OSHA
and ADA regulations for office furniture. |
2nd Level Extension Tables
(EI-2410)
Our (Standard) 2nd Level Extensions Tables
measure 18" x 28". They are made with high-density particle board finished
in (standard) woodgrain hard laminate. NOTE: custom size and/or finish
are available on request.
The 2nd Level Extensions Tables are supported
by 3 columns at a fixed height of 14" (Standard) or with optional adjustable
height columns.
- Fixed Height (Standard):
3 fixed height (black) columns and screws are supplied with each 2nd Level
Extension Table, unless the Height Adjustable option is ordered. The columns
elevate the 2nd Level Extension Tables 14" above the base extension table.
The elevation has been calculated to allow users to reach the controls
of a stereo or anything else to be placed on the elevated extension table,
and still have plenty of room between the 2 levels to accommodate and comfortably
handle needed equipment, such as a printer, telephone devices, etc.
- Height Adjustable option (EI-2413): 3 adjustable
height (black) telescoping columns are supplied when this option is ordered.
The Height Adjustable columns lock safely in position by means of a simple
screw-pin mechanism. Height can be adjusted in increments of 1/2"
from 11" low to 16" high.
MOTOR ATTACHMENT
(EI-2450, -2453, -2456, -2457)
A motor attachment is available to turn the turntables by touch.
The motor also works as a break, a feature which makes work with these
desks even more comfortable. The micro-switch box can be positioned
to suit individual needs.

| HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT: All our desks and tables
are HEIGHT ADJUSTABLE. They can be adjusted from 26 to 40 inches.
The mechanism uses a Spring Plunger and a Set Screw on each leg. Height is
adjusted manually, in Increments of one inch. Fine adjustment within the
inch is then accomplished with the Threaded Feet. |

BRING YOUR WORK TO BED!
For those who need to be in bed or like to work at night, we designed
our turntable desks to fit over a bed as suggested by the drawing (right). |

WHEELS OPTION (EI-2466 or EI-2468)
To easily move your desk to position, we offer
our WHEELS OPTION. It is a set of four 4" diameter swivel wheels
which easily fit on all Extensions for Independence's turntable desks or
tables. Two of the four wheels (castors) have breaks.
