KEY LOCKs

---- Home ---- next
At one time in the past, (mechanical) key-locks
were needed accessories for many disabled computer users. Then came digital
solutions, such as "Sticky keys", etc." which replaced the use of the
mechanical solution, although not entirely. People still have a need for
these devices, for special applications where the digital solution is
not effective. For these special cases, we will continue offering our
mechanical solutions.
Our key locks allow one-hand or mouthstick
users to depress two or more keys of a computer or electronic typewriter
simultaneously. No tools or modifications are necessary. The key locks, or
their bases, are applied adhesively, to stay firmly
until they are voluntarily removed.
We make 2 basic types of key locks: "PUSH-ON",
and "SPRING-LOADED".
PUSH-ON KEY LOCKS (STA-K)
<>
HOW THEY WORK: In the picture to the right, the Push-on key lock is
shown in its off position. In this mode, the keyboard functions normally.
To lock a key, the operator merely pushes on the side of the Key-Lock
(with minimum force); to release it, he pushes in the opposite direction.
For some computer models, one Key lock can operate two
adjacent keys alternatively, such as "CONTROL" and "SHIFT" in the picture.
The push-on key-locks work well on keyboards with non-sculptured
keys, such as is with most popular keyboards and especially the keypads
of laptops or notebook computers..

SPRING-LOADED KEYLOCKS
These Key-locks move automatically over the key to be locked
when the key is depressed. To release the key, the Keylock is merely pushed
back (with finger or mouthstick tip). The SPRING-LOADED Key-Locks cannot
operate two keys alternatively, but offer the advantage of QUICK OPERATION.
They indeed make computing easier and faster. Also, the SPRING-LOADED Key-Locks
can be more universally applied. They work equally on keys which are either
too high or too low for the PUSH-ON Keylocks.
Two basic types: 1) STICK-ON, and 2) BRACKET-MOUNTED.

"STICK-ON" SPRING-LOADED KEYLOCKS
(keylock on lower row of picture above)
These key-locks, and also the "push-on" keylocks (described
above), are used for keys which have available next to it a flat keyboard
surface of one square inch or more. The keylocks, which come with double-stick
pad, adhesively attach to the flat spot of keyboard next to the key to
be locked.
We offer 2 different STICK-ON SPRING-LOADED Key-Lock configurations,
"RIGHT" (SPR-KR), "LEFT" (SPR-KL). SPR-KL is shown in the picture above.
.BRACKET-MOUNTED SPRING-LOADED KEYLOCKS:
These keylocks are used for keys which are close to or at the
edge of keyboads. A special feature of the bracket-mounted spring-loaded keylocks
is that they can be easily removed from the keyboard, and replaced when needed
(see pictures below).
Two types: 1) "SINGLE" and 2) "DOUBLE".
"SINGLE": for operating isolated keys, such as "shift" on the
picture.
"DOUBLE": for operating two keys which are next to each other, such
as "ctrl"
and "alt" on the picture.
