THE MOUTHPIECE:

http://www.mouthstick.net/mouthstc/mmthpce.jpg

http://www.mouthstick.net/mouthstc/mbitetg.jpg

It is flat and "V" shaped, to be gripped with the molars of both sides, leaving the tongue free to move, and an opening between the front teeth for air to flow out; two main features essential for talking. This is especially important to instructors, engineers, and other professionals who need to talk while they point or write. Also, leaving the tongue free to move makes swallowing easy.

The front teeth remain free from touching or pressing on the mouthpiece. Only the molars bear the grip. And to allow for a uniform distribution of biting pressure, the thickness of the mouthpiece is tapered to the end, following the natural bite angle.

We now make the mouthpieces out of Titanium
-
tough like Stainless Steel, light like Aluminum -

If you want to know more about this  metal, here is information that might help.

Titanium has impacted mankind more than any single element in history. It is the element that took us to the depths of the ocean, the far reaches of the galaxy and elevated our capacities in medicine, industry and science.

Titanium is a material with the strength of steel, yet its weight is comparable to that of aluminum. A material completely inert and non corrosive, making it hypo-allergenic and safe for virtually any application, including medical implants and surgical tools.

Although titanium is found on almost every continent, one cannot simply stroll along the beach picking up specimens of this noble wonder of nature. In fact, it has taken decades of research and technology coupled with billions of dollars in equipment and testing to bring titanium to the forefront of metallurgy.

Titanium is an element (symbol Ti) like gold, silver and platinum. Its atomic number is 22, with atomic weight of 47.9, an electron configuration of 2-8-10-2, and a specific gravity of 4.5. Titanium has a melting point of 3020 F (1660C) and a boiling point of 5949 F (3287C).It is a silvery white non ferrous metal with the highest strength to weight ratio of any known element. For this reason titanium is the favored material in the aerospace industry. 85% of the structural components in the Space Shuttle are made of titanium.

The average commercial aircraft contains over 1 ton. Titanium has been embraced by the medical world for its superior biocompatibility, and is the preferred material for surgical instruments and implants. Titanium is inert and therefore completely corrosion resistant. It does not react to salt water, sunlight, or any body or common chemistry.

Although titanium is the best choice for the mouthpiece, it is much more expensive than Aluminum, the reazon for which we raised the prices of our mouthpieces.

While supplies last, you may still buy an aluminum mouthpiece
for your mouthstick... and pay less - Check here for availability.

About Aluminum in your mouth:
As you may know, aluminum is toxic to swallow in the long run. To prevent this from happening with our mouthpieces, we used an elaborate process for their production:

After the aluminum mouthpieces were machined and welded, they were hardened, then polished to mirror like, and clear anodized. This was to make them non-soluble to saliva, and therefore safe in the mouth.

The mouthpiece, which has replaceable plastic sleeves to soften the grip, comes in three basic sizes: LARGE, MEDIUM and SMALL (picture below). Generally, the Small size fits well on children under 11; LARGE or MEDIUM on everybody else. If you are not sure which size would fit you or your client best,
click here or the picture below  for help on how to make a test.

MOUTHSTICK "BODY"
 back | next | dir

The "body" of the H-A Modular Telescoping Mouthstick is made of two main parts: The TELESCOPER (Part #MB-T9, shown attached to mouthpiece on left of picture), and the EXTENSION (the telescoping part of the mouthstick which fits inside the TELESCOPER). So far, we offer 4 types of EXTENSIONS,  respectively from left to right :

  • MB-ESB. STANDARD BENT Extension. Bent at the end to facilitate writing, typing, and turning of pages. NOTE: Its soft end allows for easy angle adjustment with no tools required. It comes with a built-in ball pen, covered with a removable aluminum attachment with an eraser tip. For typing, pressing buttons on an remote control, turning pages, etc., the mouthstick is used with the attachment put on. For "mouth" writing or sketching, the attachment is removed, to expose the pen.
  • MB-EUB. UNIVERSAL BENT Extension. Designed with a cradle at its end on which any pen, pencil, brush, crayon, etc. can be attached (with tape, as shown). As is with all 4 extensions, MB-EUB comes with one aluminum attachment, with an eraser tip at its end.
  • MB-EUS. UNIVERSAL STRAIGHT Extension. Same as MB-EUB above, but with the cradle not in an angle, but straight.
  • MB-ESS. STANDARD STRAIGHT Extension. Same as MB-ESB above, but straight, which makes it better for some uses, such as painting with a brush, but still useful for general use. It has a soft front end designed for hand bending to make it like MB-ESB (above), if so needed.

Other uses for this mouthstick are possible by removing the (white) screw at the center of the (titanium) mouthpiece. The purpose of this screw is to provide a removable way to prevent saliva from entering the body of the mouthstick.

The eraser tip makes typing and turning pages easy. Because they (naturally) wear out with use, we supply 5 pieces with each mouthstick, and have available boxes of 60 pieces, a supply which can last years of continuous use.

MTE-ESB... bent at the end to facilitate writing, typing, and turning of pages. Its length can be set at 16-23 inches. If a longer range mouthstick is needed (18.5-28 in.), add MO-LONG to your order. If, instead, you would like your mouthstick shorter.

MTE-ESS. Straight is preferred by 50% of our customers. If you are not sure whether you want it straight or bent, order straight. The reason is: we make them all easily bendable at 3" from the end of the extensions (which are made of 5/16" dia. thin  aluminum tubing),  You can bend the extension (of the mouthstick) by hand as much as you need, whether you go from straight or from slightly bent as we supply the bent ones (which your attendant can always bend more).

All H-A Modular Telescoping Mouthsticks are supplied with TiTANIUM mouthpieces, unless otherwise specified.

Note that a pen is integrated (useful for signing, etc.). It shows when the eraser-tip "tool cap" (Aluminum Attachment) is removed.

For a quad user to loosen the screw clamp (for extending or shortening the mouthstick), the (optional) crank screw provided is merely replaced. To view how the crank is used, click here, and  then press "Back" on your browser to come back.

  • MTE-ESB has been most popular so far. It is made with MB-T9 and MB-ESB (above). Its length can be set at 16-23 inches. If a longer range mouthstick is needed (18.5-28 in.), add MO-LONG to your order.

  • MTE-ESS is made with MB-T9 and MB-ESS. Its length ranges are almost the same as MTE-ESB.
  • MTE-EUB is made with MB-T9 and MB-EUB.
  • MTE-EUS is made with MB-T9 and MB-EUS.
  • MTE-OS is our Old Style model, available as replacement to those initial customers who are used to it and prefer not to try the new lighter model.

ATTACHMENT TIPS (MT-00)  back | next | dir

For quickly interchanging implements, we offer MT-00, thin-walled aluminum cylinders which fit snugly at the end of the mouthstick. Into these "attachments", different implements can be inserted, such as an eraser or a brush. The mouthstick user can thus use an attachment with an eraser tip for turning pages or typing, and "dock" it to expose the built-in pen for writing notes. Or an artist can have easy and quick access to different brushes.
